Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 17, Verse 18

Krishna said

सत्कारमानपूजार्थं तपो दम्भेन चैव यत्।क्रियते तदिह प्रोक्तं राजसं चलमध्रुवम् ॥17.18॥

satkāramānapūjārthaṃ tapo dambhena caiva yatkriyate tadiha proktaṃ rājasaṃ calamadhruvam

Meaning

Austerity done with hypocrisy, to gain respect, honour and praise, is called rajasic. It is unstable and does not last.
