मूढग्राहेणात्मनो यत्पीडया क्रियते तपः।परस्योत्सादनार्थं वा तत्तामसमुदाहृतम् ॥17.19॥mūḍhagrāheṇātmano yatpīḍayā kriyate tapaḥparasyotsādanārthaṃ vā tattāmasamudāhṛtam
Meaning
Austerity done out of foolish stubbornness, by torturing oneself, or in order to harm another, is called tamasic.

जो तप मूर्खतापूर्ण ज़िद से, खुद को पीड़ा देकर, या किसी दूसरे को नुकसान पहुँचाने के लिए किया जाता है, उसे तामसी कहा जाता है।
