Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 17, Verse 20

Krishna said

दातव्यमिति यद्दानं दीयतेऽनुपकारिणे।देशे काले च पात्रे च तद्दानं सात्त्विकं स्मृतम् ॥17.20॥

dātavyamiti yaddānaṃ dīyate'nupakāriṇedeśe kāle ca pātre ca taddānaṃ sāttvikaṃ smṛtam

Meaning

A gift given simply because giving is right, to someone who cannot repay it, at the proper place and time and to a worthy person, is considered sattvic.

जो दान यह सोचकर दिया जाए कि देना हमारा कर्तव्य है, ऐसे व्यक्ति को जो बदले में कुछ न कर सके, और सही जगह, सही समय और सही पात्र को दिया जाए, वह सात्त्विक दान है।
